Club President Carrie Westling and members Milward Simpson, PP Dorothy Jacobson and PP Phil Noble presented a check for $500 to Carey Jr. High School counselor Gina Johns and Principal Derek Nissen for Carey's "Ignition" program, a mentorship program which identifies leaders among the students and which has them mentor 4 or 5 other students.

Johns said she is still looking for volunteers to speak at the school on leadership. That, she said, would help those mentors in their task of keeping their charges motivated.

"We're the luckiest people in the world," Johns said of her job, "we get to work with (young RYLA recipient) Jimmy and others like him every day." Johns was referring to one of the two RYLA students who had been sponsored by the club for the young leadership training camps in Colorado.
