Cheyenne Sunrise Rotary Club has donated $10,000 to help develop a fruit and vegetable garden at the new Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne and provided labor to start the garden.  “We’ll use the donated funds to design and purchase supplies for raised garden beds, grape vine trellises, an irrigation system and other supplies,” said Boys and Girls Club Chief Professional Officer Rolinda Sample. “The garden is a work in progress and will also include a garden shed, fruit trees, fencing and a quiet place to sit,” she said.
During the recent district conference in Cheyenne, Rotary Exchange students and Rotarians got things started on the garden. Volunteers from Cheyenne Sunrise and Cheyenne Rotary Clubs continued work on the raised garden beds including a focal point in the garden – a large circular herb garden representing the Rotary Wheel.
“We are committed to continued support of the Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne,” says Cheyenne Sunrise Rotary President Carrie Westling, “because youth is a focus of our club’s activities.” Westling says that focus came about a few years ago after the club underwent a “Visioning” process aided by Rotary District 5440 volunteers.
“We’re going to provide even more money and time to the Boys and Girls Club as they work toward completion of their beautiful new complex in South Cheyenne,” Westling said.
