Friday Evening “Beach Party” Features Children’s Village
The opening night party at this June’s Rotary District 5440 conference will be held at a location in Cheyenne that draws visitors from around the world.
The Children’s Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is a world-class attraction which focuses on sustainability of our finite resources. A large tent will house diners and serve as the entryway to the Village, which features waterfalls, secret gardens and much more.
Beach-themed casual clothing will be welcome at the event, says event chair and Past President Carol Rookstool, but any casual clothing will suffice. “We just want people to have fun and experience one of Cheyenne’s treasures, the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens and its Children’s Village,” Rookstool says.
The event will feature barbeque from one of Cheyenne’s best barbeque restaurants and peach cobbler will top off the dinner.
Hawaiian leis will be handed out to each guest, and Rotarians and their guests will be able to take side tours of the Botanic Gardens, which is in the beginning stages of a $12 million renovation.
Two Cheyenne Rotarians and their spouses were largely responsible for raising the money for the privately-funded Paul Smith Children’s Village, which saw donations from both of Cheyenne’s Rotary Clubs and their members.
Inside the Village, you will see a farmer’s windmill, hand powered pumps, walls constructed out of sustainable materials, Archimedes’ screw (an ancient method for hand pumping water, along with Indian Tipis, green roof dog house, active solar heating system in the classroom, birthday butterfly sunrise/sunset calculator, energy conserving materials in the greenhouse and more.
