Established on September 11, 2003, this club of about 29 members is a powerhouse of humanitarian service to the City of Cheyenne. President Roxanne Ostlund is an enthusiastic and positive leader who gets things done. During our visit, we learned the club raises funds with an annual auction and raffle. Some of the club activities and projects include Thankful Thursday, a program for high school students that do not have a place to live, reading to children, a Chile Bingo night, an Adaptive Dance for disabled adults and special needs children, a golf tournament and Giving from the Heart program that benefits those in need.
In keeping with Rotary’s goal to in- crease humanitarian service, this club has adopted an elementary school in Cheyenne and will provide a multitude of help and support to the students and staff. As a contribution to our Polio Plus goal, the club not only gave generously from each member present, but acted during the meeting to donate proceeds from its weekly “pineapple fund” to the Polio Plus effort.
Following the meeting, I met with board members President Roxanne Ostlund, Past President Brenda Laird, Foundation Chair Kevin Guille, Service Chair Larry Catalano, Past President & Club News Chair Phil Noble, Past President & Club Foundation Chair Earl King and Secretary Kathy Alexander. I was impressed with the range of service and giving this club makes to its community.
